Screen and shade
cord adjustment

If a screen or shade will not stay in position or feels too tight, the cord tension may need adjustment. Remove the screen/shade assembly from the window to reach the access screws on the back of its frame.

The written steps below cover the procedure.

Check your assembly before starting. This guide covers the removable screen/shade combo frame and rear cord-access design shown in the video. If your frame, fasteners or cord system look different, send Technical Support your window SKU and photos before taking it apart.

Keep track of top and bottom. Note the assembly’s installed orientation before removing it, and keep that orientation clear when you turn it over.

The key detail

The screws work opposite the shade

The four mounting screws hold the complete assembly to the window. The separate pair of screws on the back opens the section needed to reach the cord. Removing those rear screws provides access; adjust the cord tension inside.

Step by step

Adjust, reassemble and test

  1. Remove the complete assembly

Support the screen/shade assembly and remove the four screws securing it to the window frame. Keep the screws together, then carefully pull the assembly free.

You are removing the interior screen/shade assembly, not the glass window.

  2. Turn the assembly over

Place it on a clean, protected work surface with the back accessible. Keep track of its original top and bottom so you select the correct rear screws.

  3. Open the correct section

For the top shade, remove the two lower rear screws. For the bottom shade, remove the two upper rear screws. Carefully open the section only enough to reach the cord and tensioning area.

  4. Adjust the cord tension

Loosen or tighten the cord as needed, making small changes. Aim for smooth movement and enough tension to keep the screen or shade in position.

Check that the cords on both sides are correctly positioned and secured before closing the section. If the cord routing or adjustment is unclear, ask Technical Support for help.

  5. Reassemble the frame

Close the section carefully, keeping the cords in position. Reinstall and tighten the two rear screws you removed. Check both sides before returning the assembly to the window.

  6. Reinstall and test both panels

Place the assembly back in the window frame and reinstall the four mounting screws. Move the screen and shade through their travel several times. Confirm smooth movement, even tension and that each stays in position.
