The CRL Model Number AW1033 is a Awning Style Van Bunk Window that can be installed on virtually any Year, Make Model of Van. While bunk windows are generally installed in the upper rear quadrant of a Van, this is not a required placement of the window. Due to the windows universal fit nature of the window you can place it in any position of the Van which benefits your usage. . The outer dimensions of the window is 34-3/4" x 11-3/4" and the hole you will need to cut in the wall is 33-5/8" x 10-5/8" . Best practice is to keep the window within a single sheet metal section of your van wall as multi-depth walls will require much more labor to correctly install. Also always keep in mind that the Bunk Window is Flat and does not make allowances for Van walls curvature.
CRL (CR Laurence) utilizes its popular Clamp Ring installation method for this Awning Bunk Window, Clamp Ring originally developed in the 1970s, utilizes a factory aluminum frame as the main structural frame of the window. The main frame of the AW1033 is 33-5/8 inches wide and 10-5/8 inches tall. The mechanism and glass are integrated into the main structure.
To seal your AW1033 Awning Van Bunk Window, an EPDM rubber seal is pre-applied to the aluminum frame. This seal, once the window is installed, will be compressed against the outer wall of the van creating a weather-tight seal.
The bunk windows awning glass opens outward approximately 2-1/4" so it will generally be safe for the rear quarter sections of the passenger side of your van when a sliding door is opened. We always recomoned double checking measurements to ensure the safe operation on your particular Van and placement. Along with the outer seal previously mentioned the Awning Glass has an interior seal, when the vent is cranked shut, the vent glass compresses on the seal to keep moisture and air out. Since the vent glass utilizes less pressure than the main seal, there can be slight water entry when using a high-pressure hose. (For example, when washing your van, we recommend simply utilizing a shower setting to avoid entry). Also, under extreme wind conditions, slight air noise can occur.
When the Awning Bunk Window is opened it will have a 31-1/4" x 8-1/4" screened opening to allow for air flow into the cabin of your Van.
The AW1033 Bunk Window screen is a fiberglass mesh is attached to a powder-coated aluminum frame and easily Velcro's into vent opening, allowing for easy attachment and removal of the screen for cleaning and or maintenance of the window.
The two main components that make the window open and closes is a gear box and track system located at the bottom middle portion of awning vent glass. The gear box can be turned clockwise which will move aluminum arms to move within the vent glass track which extends the bottom of the vent glass outward, when turning the handle counter clockwise the arms are then guided back through the track pulling the vent glass back inward.
At the top of the Awning Vent Glass you will find a bracketed piano type hinge.
Since Bunk Windows are universal you will need to create your own template. You can do this one of two ways. Easy way Tape the Trim Ring together. Place on a piece of cardboard (Perhaps the window box) trace to the inside of the ring that touches the cardboard. While this is easier it is also less accurate. Measuring the trim ring we used to produce this information it measured 33-13/16" x 10-9/16" both measurements being slightly larger then the 33-5/8" x 10-5/8" you will want to make sure to always cut to the inside of the line you created to compensate. A more accurate way would be laying the window itself glass side up on the cardboard mark the handle (you will notch a rectangle for the handle to fall in approx. 3-1/2" x 1" so the frame of the window is flat to the cardboard then trace off of that. This will be more accurate to the frame of your window having less play in the hole leaves more tolerance for unintentional over cutting of wall.
The Clamp Ring or Trim ring of the window is attached to the main frame of the AW1033 Awning Bunk window from the interior side. When the hole is cut in the wall, the main frame of the window extends to the interior (about 1") from the outside. The clamp ring caps over the main frame are attached by #8 x 3/4" black pan-head screws. The basic idea is your van's sheet metal wall is sandwiched between the rubber seal and aluminum frame on the outside and the clamp ring on the inside. Since this window is flat always tighten screws very slowly few threads and on to next screw keep moving around the window until all screws are completely tightened and the ring is sitting tight against main frame with no gaps. The reason for the slow attachment is to finesse the wall and window together. Installing the window to quickly can result in bucking of the van wall.
